SEPTEMBER LAKES REPORT
Dear Game fishers,
RAWLSBURY
The silt trap at Rawlsbury is being repaired and there are notices posted on the Fishing hut and on our website explaining that the lakes are closed and access to them prevented whilst the works are continuing. This will stop the flow of mud and silt in Chapmans and help prevent the lake from becoming too shallow. We are also hoping that at some stage this autumn Chapmans lake will be partially drained and the lake bed excavated to restore it to a sensible depth. There are some delays with the repair works so I will let everyone know when you can gain access.
Some of your reports are as follows:-
• I wasn't sure how it would fish after the storm this afternoon; however, Chapmans was surprisingly active with plenty of fish spotted near the surface. Caught two fairly quickly, targeting them with a Montana as they cruised around weighing in at 4.5lb and 3lb. Popped up to Viners, which as expected was a bit more challenging, eventually had two nice Browns tempted by beaded Hares ear nymph.
• Ist time trout fishing for a while,as usual great day at Zelston ,fished with a guest Paul who had 1@ 5lb 3oz 1@ 4lb 1oz.Ihad 1@4lb 9oz 1@3lb 9oz. Fish fell to deer hair muddlers off the top, exciting stuff and hot head damsels.
• A blustery day today! But I had the lake to myself & had great fun fishing with one fly all day! An orange daddy fished dry & inched through the waves resulted in 2 nice Rainbows of 3-8 & 4-0.
• WZ entirely to myself this afternoon. My thanks to whom ever has done the magnificent job of cutting the grass. Terrific effort indeed. It was a perfect afternoon with a north wind but warm, clear and dry. I only saw 2 fish one of which succumbed to my damsel nymph and weighed 6lbs 2oz. Otherwise a blank but fun trying!
Work Party Tuesday 1st November
This is a reminder for all those available to help, we will be clearing weed from WZ on Tuesday. Hope you can make it!
Winterbourne Zelston Closure - Thursday October 10th
WZ will be closed on Oct 10th. We are hosting a Taster day designed to provide tuition and one to one fishing for the members of the BOWRA charity. It was founded by former Royal Marine Lt Col Mark Bowra, after suffering a massive stroke and facilitates activities for veterans and stroke / brain injury survivors within the local Dorset community. Please see their website for further information regarding the foundation (www.bowra-foundation.org).
Tight Lines,
Paul.
